To remove Sherlock, first it has to be seen. That's why we designed it to look like the average end bar plug: it goes unnoticed.
Keep in mind that a visible fastened device can still be easily knocked out, while a hidden removable device has more chances to survive.
But what if the thief already knows about Sherlock?
Every year millions of bikes are stolen in Europe only.
By the end of 2017 there will be thousands of Sherlock devices around the globe.
It is hard to imagine the common bike thief aware and afraid of Sherlock.
However, if they somehow discover the device, there are two things to take in account:
- Moving the bike triggers the alarm, so you will still know about the theft immediately.
- The time required to remove Sherlock adds to the time necessary to cut the chain/lock: if you installed it firmly (strongly advised to avoid accidental removal while cycling), this time increases and may discourage the thief or give you time to interrupt them.
